VoA Code of Conduct

A caring guiding principle for community, musical quality, and well-being

1. A community with room for everyone

We meet each other with respect and curiosity—regardless of experience, voice type, age, gender, identity, or background. We do not tolerate bullying or discrimination. "Fun" should be fun for everyone involved, and it is always okay to speak up and set boundaries.

2. Constructive dialogue

We speak directly to one another, even when topics are difficult. When giving feedback, we keep it constructive and specific, addressing potential issues early whenever possible—and always in a respectful tone.

3. Musical preparation and presence

We use our rehearsals to study, interpret, and create music together. At concerts, we perform our entire repertoire by memory to remain fully present with each other and our audience. Given our high ambitions, we expect you to prepare at home. We respect the musical decisions of the conductor.

4. Stability and attendance

Prioritizing attendance is key. If you must cancel, please do so with good reason and well in advance, allowing the choir to plan accordingly. We arrive on time—or ideally a bit early—to settle in together. You know best if you are the type of person who needs to plan for a "time buffer."

5. Representing the choir

When traveling or performing, we represent VoA. We put in the effort—for each other, the audience, and the choirs we visit—and we adhere to agreed schedules and dress codes.

6. Alcohol in moderation

We never let alcohol affect the community, our performance, or concert situations.

7. Respecting boundaries

We respect each other's personal and physical boundaries. It is always okay to decline hugs or physical contact, or to express a need for quiet time. If you are struggling, there is space to say so or ask for help. We share responsibility for each other's well-being.

8. Resolving conflicts

We approach one another directly first and seek solutions through dialogue. If a situation cannot be resolved, please reach out to a board member to help facilitate the conversation.

9. Protecting VoA’s reputation

We act helpfully and respectfully toward venues and partners. When speaking about VoA, we remain loyal and mindful of the community. We use the choir's own platforms for internal communication and only share internal photos or messages with mutual consent.

10. Fair finances

We pay agreed membership fees and contributions on time to ensure the association’s continued operation.

11. Annual review of the CoC

Once a year, at the General Assembly, we revisit the Code of Conduct for a "caring check-up." Everyone is welcome to contribute ideas and suggestions.
