Rehearsals at VoA | Voices of Aarhus

Rehearsal Time and Location

VoA rehearses every Wednesday from 18:50 to 21:50 at "Udsigten" by Tangkrogen in Aarhus. We start at exactly ten to seven—a slightly odd time, but there is a good reason for it. We use the first ten minutes to set up chairs and "hug it out," ensuring that we are fully ready to start the rehearsal by 19:00 at the latest.

Warm-up and Musical Focus

Every rehearsal begins with a brief presentation of the evening’s plan. We then move into the warm-up, getting the body and voice moving, gathering our energy, and honing our choral skills such as rhythm, intonation, blend, and tone. The goal is both to get ready for the evening’s repertoire and to strengthen the technical skills required to sing vocal music in VoA. Tine offers ongoing vocal guidance—both for the entire choir and individually as needed.

Repertoire and Snacks

After the warm-up, we work purposefully on our songs in preparation for upcoming concerts and recordings. Around 20:15, we take a well-deserved fifteen-minute break where we take turns bringing something delicious. This could be homemade or store-bought cake and buns, but we also enjoy sweets and snacks. We also use the break for collective announcements before continuing to sing for the rest of the evening.

Wrapping Up and Socializing

The rehearsal ends at 21:50—another specific time that ensures we have tidied up by 22:00. We spend the final minutes of the session recording relevant practice files for home study and celebrating the musical victories we’ve achieved together. Even though the rehearsal ends, the fun doesn't necessarily stop. We often round off the evening with a cold beer or soda and some informal socializing before heading our separate ways.
