Joining VoA

VoA consists of 30 singers evenly distributed across eight voice parts: S1, S2, A1, A2, T1, T2, B1, and B2. In the long term, we aim to grow to 33–36 singers.

We are currently interested in hearing from highly qualified singers for the following positions:

​

• Soprano 1 (with a secure high C)

• Soprano 2

• Tenor 1

• Tenor 2

• Bass 2 (with a secure low C)

About the Audition

Admission to VoA is based on a 15-minute vocal audition, followed by a brief conversation with Tine and a small committee of VoA singers to align expectations.

In advance, we will send you an excerpt from a choral arrangement for you to prepare and sing together with a small group of singers. You do not need to memorize it, but you should know it well enough to focus on listening to the others and finding a cohesive blend.

 

In addition, please prepare an English-language solo song (maximum 3 minutes). We want to hear your natural tone in the range where you feel most comfortable. For example, if you are auditioning as an Alto 2, choose a song that showcases your lower register; if you are auditioning as a Soprano 1, choose one that highlights your high notes. We also want to hear your vocal color at different dynamics, from soft to loud. You may sing a cappella or with accompaniment. A piano will be available, and we are happy to accompany you if you bring sheet music or chord charts.

 

The audition concludes with an ear-training exercise to see how quickly and accurately you can pick up a melody by ear, as well as a range exercise to explore your full vocal compass and ensure the best placement within the choir.
